Victory at McDonald’s For Employee Free Choice

On December 18, after more than 500 activists visited McDonald’s locations nation-wide to talk with workers and consumers about McDonald’s opposition to Employee Free Choice, the company backed down from their previous opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act because of our work!

Samaritan employees fight mandatory PTO; defend right to wear union stickers

In October, Samaritan Health Services told members at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital that they had to take ten days off work before the end of the year. The time would come out of workers’ accrued PTO, if they have enough leave in the bank. Otherwise it would be unpaid.

In 2008, nearly 600 SEIU volunteers made 230,000 phone calls, knocked on 101,000 doors, worked more than 5,500 volunteer shifts, and distributed more than 350,000 pieces of literature to get out the vote. Together, we supported candidates who share our values on health care, economic fairness, retirement security, and the right to form a union; and elected Barack Obama as U.S. President.
